Driver admits Aberdeen restaurant accident

by Conrad Murray last modified 2008-04-30 08:25

A drink driver has admitted smashing a BMW into an Aberdeen restaurant, leaving his friend injured in the passenger seat.

Offshore worker James Mehigan, 32, of Newmachar, drove without a licence or insurance while over the legal limit. He crashed into the city centre La Lombarda restaurant in February.

Mehigan was driving down the city's Union Street and lost control of the car round a sharp bend on King Street. The passenger was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Mehigan admitted a series of charges at Aberdeen Sheriff Court. Sentence was deferred for six weeks for background reports.
