Charged with Drink Driving causing damage and leaving scene. What penalty might I face?
I have been charged with driving over the limit, causing damage to another car, and leaving the scene of accident. I can not remember the accident driving my car. I was wanting to know what charge I'm looking at this is a first offence.
You have to attend court and decide on how you want to plead. You should ask to speak to the duty solicitor at court - this is a free service. You are facing a minimum 12 months ban and this is mandatory unless you can show that there are special reasons in relation to the fact that you were driving over the limit, for example a medical emergency forced you to drive whilst over the limit.
You will also get a fine for failing to stop and failing to report an accident. Depending on the amount you were over the limit you will get a fine, community service or prison in relation to the drink driving matter and in addition to the ban - unless you have defence.
We can arrange representation for you at court if you want further assistance, but this will be on the basis of a private fixed charge.
