Is there law regarding acceptable maximum temperatures in the workplace?

I work in a bar in a bingo club to day I checked the temperature behind the bar at it was touching 30 degrees centigrade. I made a complaint to the management but they said they won't do anything about it. I was just wondering whether there was a law for temperature levels in the work place as surely such high temperatures as this can cause health problems.

There is no legislated maximum temperature at work but an employer must provide a safe working environment and to maintain high levels of productivity it is to their benefit to provide a comfortable one as well. If the temperature is beginning to impact on your health then your employer would be under a duty to act. You would need to be able to establish that you were suffering from a recognised illness or condition and that this was caused or contributed to by your workplace environment.
