My friend has bought a car which has an MOT and tax but no insurance. Can I drive the car home for him under my insurance which covers me for other cars under a third party policy? by Maria Mason — last modified 2008-11-20 20:23
My friend has bought a car which has an MOT and tax and he needs to collect it. At present he doesn't have insurance to drive the car so the car has no insurance on it at all. My insurance policy say I can drive other cars under a third party policy as long as I have the owner's permission and it does not belong to me. Would I be okay to drive the car home for him even though the car itself has no insurance on it?
I passed my driving test less than two years ago and since then have received two lots of three points. I have heard nothing from the DVLA for over ten months and don't know if I have been disqualified or not. What should I do? by Maria Mason — last modified 2008-10-17 13:41
I passed my driving test less than two years ago. I then received three points for speeding and then another three points, also for speeding. I know that if you get six points you have to take the test again but it has been over ten months now and I have not heard anything about disqualification etc. What can I do as obviously my life is on hold? I don't want to inform the DVLA as they might not know ... if you know what I mean.

How long do penalty points count against me for insurance purposes? by Maria Mason — last modified 2008-09-05 11:01
During 2005 I had two NIPs adding up to six points. One has dropped off in March this year and another will drop off in November this year. Will they still count against me regarding my insurance renewal?
I was in a car accident and suffered whiplash. I have been offered £700, is this a good offer or will I get more money if I get a lawyer? by mariam — last modified 2008-09-02 20:26
I was in a car accident and suffered whiplash. I am named on the driver's policy claim and her insurance company contacted me this morning with a offer of £700. I was wondering is this a good offer, or is there a possibility of getting more money if I get a lawyer?
If an unlicenced and uninsured driver takes the keys to my car and gets caught on a speed camera what are the likely penalties? by conrad — last modified 2008-09-01 09:43
What happens if someone takes the keys to my car without my permission and gets a caught speeding on a camera. What happens if your unsure who it was, and if you do know who it was do you send the letter back stating you weren't the driver but the person in question has no licence or insurance does he/she need to go to court?
I failed to tell my insurer that I had points. I have since been stopped by a policeman: what happens now? by conrad — last modified 2008-08-19 20:07
I forgot to tell my insurance company (MoreThan) that I have points. I was pulled over this morning and the officer asked if I had told my MoreThan about my points. My answer was yes, however, after thinking about it, i realised I hadn't told them. What can happen now ?
I caused minor damage to another car in a car park: can the other driver insist the claim goes through insurance? by conrad — last modified 2008-08-10 21:14
I scraped a car in a private bank car park - the damage to the other car was negligible and looked as if it could probably have been resolved with some T-cut - it looked like I had transferred some dirt from my car onto hers! The lady came back and saw the car - I said it was me and went about wiping most of the dirt off-I reckon I could have got all of off given 5 minutes. She started going on about going to a garage and going through insurance. Where do I stand legally? Can I make her what I think is a reasonable offer for a bottle of T-cut? I took four pictures on my mobile to show my husband...
My insurance covers me third party in other cars: am I insured if I drive a hire car which was hired by a friend and what will happen if I am given a producer? by conrad — last modified 2008-08-06 15:14
I have a Norwich Union policy that allows me to drive any vehicle when I am covered third party. I was driving my mate's car with him as passenger which he hired from Hertz. A policeman saw us pulling into a private car park and approached us and give me a producer. Am I covered as far as the law are concerned?

I bought a car and insured it but the registered keeper lives at another address. The car has been stolen and the insurers want to know why it is not registered to me... by conrad — last modified 2008-07-23 16:29
I bought a car which I insured as me being the main driver and a second driver. The second driver is the Registered Keeper living in a different address from mine. My car was stolen and I have made a claim to the insurance company.I have just received a letter from my insurers asking me to advise them why the vehicle was registered in the other driver's name and in a different address. Is there any legal implication if the registered keeper is not the policy holder or the owner of the car?
Can I drive my friend's car on my comprehensive motor insurance policy? by conrad — last modified 2008-07-17 21:46
I have fully comprehensive insurance on my car. In this situation can I drive my friend's car without adding my name on his insurance? Will my insurance cover me for that or do I need to inform my friend's insurers and get my name added on to his insurance ??
Insurer failed to record my 3 points but is now demanding an additional premium for the time I was on cover even though I have now cancelled my policy... by conrad — last modified 2008-07-17 20:05
I got 3 points on my licence in May 2007 and informed my insurance company of these at the time. I recently got my renewal which wasn't competitve so I called to cancel the policy. When I called I queried why my 3 points hadn't showed on the renewal. They informed me they had no record of me telling them about the 3 points. Because of this they would have to charge me a £190 one off payment, but if I renewed my policy with them now they would reduce it to £70. Is this correct? I have now cancelled my insurance with this company, but they have said they still want £190 because their records should have been changed in May 2007. Can they demand this money? If I had had an accident my insurance would have been void, so why do I need to pay this payment after the event? What would happen if I refused to make the payment?
Car involved in non-fault accident had bald front tyre - will this void my insurance? by conrad — last modified 2008-07-01 11:49
I was rear-ended by a tailgating driver but when we came to a stop he said my front tyre was bald and he would report me to the police. What penalty am I likely to face and will my insurance be void? Can I claim against him?
Should I accept a driver improvement course as an alternative to prosecution? by conrad — last modified 2008-06-27 11:12
I recently had a collision with another vehicle which was my fault. There were no injuries, no alcohol and no speeding involved. However I have been advised by the South Wales Police that I must attend a Driver Improvement course which will cost me £175 or else face prosecution. I have a clean driving license and this is the first accident I have had in twenty years driving. I would appreciate your advice on how to proceed.
One of my employees is unable to do his job due to a work related injury. I want to make him redundant but could I be sued? by Maria Mason — last modified 2008-06-25 13:00
I run a small business with three employees. The business is not doing well so I will have to reduce my workload and make someone redundant. Unfortunately one of my employees injured himself at work and he is going to claim off my insurance. This employee still continues to come to work, although he is unable to do the job that he is he is contracted to do because of his injury, this inability is putting a tremendous strain on an already difficult situation, as the other workers are 'carrying' this individual. Consequently, this is the person I wish to make redundant. I need to know whether in these circumstance I could be sued for treating him unfairly. He is my longest serving team member and if he had not had this accident he would not have been selected for redundancy.

I have a valid MOT and insurance

My 16 year old son crashed into our neighbour's van when moving our car on a shared drive: he obviously was uninsured so who is liable for the damage? by conrad — last modified 2008-06-15 07:59
My 16yr old son decided to move a car and hit a van belonging to my neighbour. We told our neighbour that we would pay for the damage but were then told by the Police that we are not legally responsible for any repairs. However I have now received a formal letter from my neighbour's company saying that he will have repairs done by my preferred organisation but will reserve the right to have them done again if he is not happy. He quotes over £1000 for these repairs and states that he will invoice me for any loss of income whilst his van is being repaired. I am not friends with my neighbour but I appreciate we have to live in the same street so my offer was a moral, amicable one. I did not expect such a response from him! He's made me feel that I don't want to be friendly and pay for his repairs. As I have no savings and no cash and cannot afford repayments on a loan, how can I resolve this situation please? I currently have two grown-up sons who have lost jobs due to current economic climate and am struggling to make ends meet. My husband said that if we were hit by an uninsured driver, we would claim on our insurance!
